Resumen

This article studies gardens and spa parks and analyzes their contribution to the caracterization of ninenteeth's century therapeutic and to their cultural projection, based on the premised of the geographical character of the healing institutions developed during the second half of the 19th century and on an understanding of disease etiology as an imbalance, which was associated with an unhealthy atmosphere. This study proposes that thermal green areas were structural units of Chilean nineteenth century's spas in medical, commercial and identity terms. They contributed to the rationalization of their rural landscape, posed a deep healing sense on their balneary proposal and supported their historical legacy.
