For the purpose of knowing the reproductive profile of the female population who was submitted to sterilization by the non-surgical method of quinacrine pellets, every woman who decided for this definitive method was interviewed in the Family Planning Department of Sotero del Rio Hospital in Santiago, Chile, from January to September of 1990. The results reveal that those women started their sexual active life in the period of adolescence, and only after the first childbirth they began to use methods for family planning. As a consequence, they had a varied contraceptive history with poorly satisfactory results. At the moment of putting an end to their reproductive life, the women still had, on average, 15 years of fertile life ahead. Most of the women belong to families which are legally constituted and have 3.8 children alive, which exceeds this groups desired number of 3.0 children per woman. The reasons stated for selecting this definitive method were family planning and woman's health mainly.
