Resumen

The article analyzes the conditions that allowed the creation of the University of Aysén (UAY), a historic milestone as it ended almost seventy years of state inactivity in the creation of new public universities. The article analyzes a critically dimension, such as the scarce link with the environment shown by regional universities in Chile. Through the application and analysis of twenty-four interviews with various incumbent actors, the emergence of new sources of legitimacy with counter-hegemonic potential is confirmed. Specifically, these sources are presented as a theoretical and critical alternative to the neoliberal axioms and principles that shape the tertiary education system in Chile. In the same way, they act in opposition to the processes of State-national homogenization that this system promotes.
