Resumen
This article aims to establish the conditions that allowed Joaquín Edwards Bello (1887-1968) to insert and establish himself in the Chilean literary world at the beginning of the 20th century. To do this, and following in the footsteps of Bourdieu, his habitus is reconstructed in order to analyze the social and economic circumstances that led a young man that belonged to the Chilean oligarchy at the beginning of the 20th century to become a writer. His formative stage will particularly be addressed: That of his first journalistic and literary publications. The relationship between Edwards Bello's social class and Paris, which was the cultural capital at the turn of the century, is one of the key points of this study. Reconstructing his journey through the main European capitals shows how his first stays in Europe allowed Edwards Bello to understand how the literary world works and build an authoritative image not only to be used in Europe, but also in Chile on his return.
