La colonización de barrios céntricos por artistas

There is an increasing population of artists close to the Avenida Italia sector in Santiago. These newcomers have rejected the well-off suburbs of the city in search for luminous but affordable spaces, and have discovered the quality of neighborhood life in the meantime. In North America, Europe, and in neighborhoods with large concentrations of artists, there has been a rise in the number of residents with greater income as well as higher end commerce, which in turn produces a drift of original residents to other parts of town. This has put the own characteristics of Avenida Italia neighborhood at risk, which are, ironically, what motivated artists to come to the area in the first place. The incipient and notorious gentrification of the Avenida Italia sector in the Commune of Providencia2 has encouraged us to research the characteristics of this recent transformation. We analyze possible threats as well as future opportunities from a conciliatory perspective, one that looks into this spontaneous social mix in a way that helps everyone-bread maker, artist, mechanical worker, carpenter, and house wife-benefit from the renovation of the area.
