Resumen

This article reflects on the presence of architectural spaces in Chilean cinema's commercial releases over the past 50 years. A paradigmatic group of films from the analyzed period witnesses a process where references to architecture reduce, ceasing to be considered as key features within local fictions. The methodology involved the study of a series of films released under democratic governments, which include two generations of filmmakers, in order to identify variables and categories referred to the architectural elements that are shown. After detecting such parameters, these were used to examine the cinematic narrative of local productions and its relationship with architecture, offering an interpretative approach regarding the role played by the elements that shape the vision of architectural spaces within the film's plot. Thus, the study reveals a gradual process where these architectural traces begin to fade. As Chilean productions' releases increase since 2000, instead, we can see an atmospheric representation of habitable spheres that are more difficult to identify. In turn, it is possible to read this factor as a symptom of the current urban condition, confirming that the cinematographic art maintains its validity as a denouncer of Chile's s urban problematics and its social dynamics.
