Resumen
Chile has a large-sized copper mining industry which generates a wide variety of residues and wastes, including pulp, solid, liquid and gaseous effluents. The environmental and health problem of smelter gases has been minimized by the installation of sulfuric acid plants for sulfur dioxide abatement. Arsenic volatile compounds have been removed from smelter cooling gases with the use of electrostatic precipitators.
