Resumen

The use of chemical irritants to harvest Eisenia fetida (Andrei) worms from high-density raising beds located at Alto Jahuel (Chile) was investigated. The best results were obtained with dilute solutions of formaldehyde (0.74, 0.925 and 1.11 gl-) or with dilute solutions of potassium permanganate (0.75, 1.00 and 1.25 g l-). The results were measured in terms of worms harvested, mortality rate, residual effect on the food substrate of worms, and the absence of these substances from worm meal, which is the final product.
