Resumen

The “technological revolution” caused by the new Information and Communication technologies (ICTs) implies that Higher Education Institutions must develop a high capacity to adapt and cope with an increasingly connected society, where students have also evolved becoming increasingly demanding, both in terms of to the way the educational process develops as well as the responses to their needs. Although this is a global trend, Spain is not the exception to the rule. On that way, the offer in higher education and business schools has become diversified and more complex, coexisting in tension and competition in face-to-face, mixed (face-to-face / online), and completely online modalities. This research, in its central objective, seeks to describe the main aspects, with their respective scope, that characterize the different educational models in Higher Education, seeing their application in Spain and in their particularity to Business Schools. Methodologically, it is a qualitative study of a descriptive nature that allows us to understand the current state of the art. Its main result is to identify how this characterization of educational models is expressed in Higher Education in Spain and in particular in Business Schools.As conclusions, the main trends associated with the use of ICTs in distance higher education are identified and described.
