N2 - In this work we present the calculation of the density of states for a three-state Potts model motivated by the study of charged particles in a confined geometry, systems that are of special interest in the study of the thermodynamics of nuclear fusion. The procedure have been performed using a recent implementation of the Wang-Landau algorithm, and our results show that the methodology is well suited for these long-range systems. We reproduce a second-order phase transition, similar to the dissociation transition from neutral gas to plasma.
