A conceptual approach to a hybrid network simulation model

Resumen

Network simulation has gathered enormous interest lately as it is seen as the new approach to deal with complexity. The growth of social networks is widely known, and its scale and complexity define them as complex systems either for representation or analysis. Networks mean connection between individuals, organizations, etc. Complexity is inherent to this concept and, for its representation and analysis; we need a confident and precise methodology. Here is where simulation methods and techniques play a major role. Network topology and the dynamic behavior of nodes, their constant change, the influence that individual network components have, the weight assignment according to influence, dynamic changes of components, and the spreading and diffusion of information deserve a careful representation. Simulation has become the necessary tool for representation and prediction of complex systems. It can provide with the means for covering all levels, general or strategic, to specific or operational, In this paper, we take a glance of some types of networks, their definition, use and structure. We analyze different types of simulations and ways we can represent these complex networks. We present a case study based on a University Enrollment Model and a hybrid simulation approach to deal with it.
