Abstract

Using low-resolution spectroscopy with FORS1,FORS2 and GEMINI-GMOS we have obtained good quality spectra for 99 LMC RR Lyrae, of which 86 are in the field and 13 in the clusters NGC1835 and NGC2019. 15 RR Lyrae stars of ωCen were observed as well for comparison. We measured radial velocities for 87 LMC RR Lyrae, and metallicities for 78 RR Lyrae, nearly tripling the previous sample. These targets are located in 11 fields covering a wide range of distances, out to 2.5 degrees from the center of the LMC. The sample allows us to compare the kinematics of the old and metal-poor stars in the LMC with the rest of the stellar populations.
