Abstract
In view of the almost total disagreement among positions and the lack of a unified or coherent definition, the article attempts to specify what is meant by “fascism”. It seeks to characterize this political phenomenon on the basis of its economic-political role, the place it assigns to racism and nationalism, and its conservative nature leading to a closed society. While the article does not aim at arriving at an encyclopedic definition, it does establish some analytical guidelines that make it possible to situate the issue through a theoretical articulation of formerly scattered elements.
