The continental margin of central-southern Chile presents some morphostructural features not common among the active margins. The trench, with few exceptions, is filled by an important sedimentary prism. The presence and the characters of this prism strongly condition the accretion process in the downslope. They introduces here some examples of active accretion and the cases are discussed in which this process seems to be inactive.
