Abstract

The chapter explores the role of Multimodality Studies in contemporary international research. It provides a summary of the field’s major antecedents, approaches, and current trends. In addition, the chapter discusses the challenges the field of Multimodality Studies faces in various geographical, linguistic, and socio-cultural contexts and offers a brief historical review of the recent developments in multimodality in South Africa and Central and Latin America. The chapter concludes with an outline of the edited collection.
