Abstract

This paper presents a new converter permitting regeneration of energy from a DC motor to the single phase mains. The converter includes a front end switch-mode rectifier (SMR) composed by two transistors, two diodes and two filter capacitors. The output stage has four transistors and four diodes working as a four-quadrant chopper. Four control loops are used to control the speed, the armature current, the input current and the capacitor voltages. An additional loop ensures balancing of capacitor voltages. Simulation results show that the converter has a practically sinusoidal input current, with a power factor higher than 0.99. The regeneration capability of the converter is also confirmed.
