Abstract

The main objective of this study was to identify and compare the most prominent fitness trends for the year 2024 in Chile, and to compare them with the results of the international survey conducted by the American College of Sport Medicine (ACSM). Information was collected through an online survey that replicated the methodology used by the ACSM in its global fitness trends surveys. The questionnaire was distributed to 3,359 current fitness professionals nationwide. The response rate was 21.55%, with a total of 724 responses. In evaluating the results, the top five trends identified in Chile were 1) "personal trainers", 2) "weight loss exercises", 3) "interdisciplinary work groups", 4) "hiring certified exercise professionals" and 5) "subscription-based membership". Notably, 10 of these trends are consistent with last year's international survey. The results show a strong relevance of physical activity practice with health and wellness objectives in the Chilean context. In addition, there is a low interest in the use of technology in the fitness sector, which may indicate a preference for more traditional approaches to physical activity. This analysis contributes to a more detailed understanding of the preferences and dynamics of the fitness sector in Chile.
