Abstract
The article analyzes the historical construction of the heroic figure of Arturo Prat in the Chilean theater between 1897 and 2002. Our proposal suggests that the dramatic representation of the character can be understood as an effective testimony of the collective imaginary, associated with political perception and national identity of each period. Maintaining his status as reference, Arturo Prat, on stage goes from the virtuous model of nineteenthcentury romanticism, to another that, in XXI century, humanizes him and fight against his own limitations.
