Abstract
The transition from a colonial order to a republican system in Chile, between 1800 and 1830, posed complex challenges for the country. Among them, organize an educational system that guarantees the training of new citizens. However, the projects developed in this context did not pose revolutionary changes, but rather maintained elements of continuity with the colonial educational system, in which the teaching of Latin had a key place. Based on this finding, the objective of this article is to analyze the educational projects formulated in the context of the independence and republican configuration of Chile, in order to understand the role and valuation that was given to Latinity, in dialogue with the historical circumstances and with the patriotic purpose of forming a republican citizenship and educating the elite that would lead it.
